Google Reviews for Small Business: How to Get, Manage, and Respond to Reviews
Google reviews can help potential customers learn more about your business, feel more confident about choosing you, and find your business in local Google Search and Maps results.
For small businesses, the goal is not simply to collect as many reviews as possible. A better approach is to make it easy for real customers to share their experiences and to have a consistent process for requesting, monitoring, and responding to reviews.

Why Google Reviews Matter
Reviews give prospective customers information from people who have already done business with you. A collection of recent, authentic reviews can help build confidence and influence whether someone decides to contact you or make a purchase.
Reviews can also affect local visibility. Google considers review count and review score as factors in local search results, so more reviews and positive ratings can help improve your visibility in Google Search and Maps.
Make It Easy for Customers to Leave a Review
Google Business Profile provides a direct review link that you can share with customers.
From your Business Profile, selectRead reviews, then Get more reviews. From there, you can copy your review link and share it through email, text messages, receipts, thank-you messages, and other customer communications.
Google also provides a QR code that links directly to your review page. This can be useful on printed materials, signage, receipts, or handouts.
Ask Customers Directly
You do not need a complicated review campaign. Start with the communication methods you already use with customers.
You might:
Send a review request by email after a purchase or service.
Text a customer your direct review link.
Ask for a review in person when appropriate.
Keep the request simple. Explain that reviews are helpful to your business and invite the customer to share their experience.
Google reviews should reflect genuine customer experiences. Do not offer incentives for reviews, selectively ask only satisfied customers, pressure customers to leave a review, or tell customers what to write.
Create Ongoing Review Opportunities
You can also make it easy for customers to leave a review without sending an individual request every time.
Consider adding your review link or QR code to:
Your website
Customer-facing email signatures
Follow-up or thank-you emails
Digital receipts and order confirmations
In-store or office signage
Printed cards or handouts
The easier the process is, the more likely customers are to follow through when they want to leave feedback.
Respond to Your Reviews
Requesting reviews is only part of the process. Businesses should also monitor and respond to the reviews they receive.
Reply to both positive and negative reviews in a timely, professional manner. Keep responses short, relevant, and conversational.
Whenever possible, personalize the response rather than posting the exact same reply to everyone. Reference something from the customer’s comments and avoid turning the response into an advertisement or unnaturally forcing keywords into it.
It is also useful to decide who on your team is responsible for monitoring and responding to reviews so the process does not get overlooked.
What About Negative Reviews?
Negative reviews happen. When appropriate, respond professionally and address the customer’s comments without becoming defensive.
If a review violates Google’s policies, it can be reported for possible removal. However, Google does not remove reviews simply because a business disagrees with them or does not like what was said.
For current information about reporting reviews, see Google’s review removal guidelines.
Managing Reviews From Your Phone
You do not need a separate Google Business Profile app. You can access your Business Profile through the Google Maps app to check reviews and respond to customers from your phone.
You can also manage your Business Profile through Google Search by signing into the Google account associated with the business and searching for your business name.
Keep Your Review Process Simple
A good review process does not need to be complicated. Make it easy for customers to leave feedback, ask consistently without pressuring them, monitor what customers are saying, and respond professionally.
